Cait\’s big Announcement

Well, I think Cait must have wished for teeth for Christmas, she got at least one of her wishes today, her very first tooth! She grabbed ahold of my finger this morning and I was very surprised to feel a tooth in there, she has not had an off moment the whole time she was pushing this little dandy through! Unlike her big brother Eamon who seemed to teeth for months on end! What a little sweetie :) No pictures, she is a little shy about showing her new little tooth, and the boys wanted to see it so bad. They and you nana\’s will just have to wait!

News about the chickens. I got the chicken yard finished and the gate hung, and we also made a sand pathway to the chicken coop as the ground is starting to get pretty muddy from all the rain, I think we may end up putting burlap bags on top though because the now we are just tracking sand instead of mud into the house :) The chickens are not getting along very well. Those two little birds hold their own pretty well, but Snoopy seems to be a little unrelentless, I am really hoping they will work all their differences out soon. I don\’t like worrying about those poor little birds, they are so cute and I don\’t want the other chickens to hurt them. I think there is enough space in the coop for them to get away from each other so hopefully they will all figure out their place and we can all be one happy family :) I took some pictures today but I need to get to bed. We have our homeschool co-op tomorrow. Goodnight!

Today was kind of exciting, we got two new chickens. Meet Gladys (the mama) and Themla (her baby). Gladys is the one in the front and Thelma is the one in the back. We got them from a lady who offered them on freecycle. We are excited to have a couple of banty hens, aren’t they pretty! We are going to keep them in this little pen in the coop for a few days while they get used to the other chickens. The banty hens are quite a bit smaller than our other chickens and the larger ones could kill them if we are not careful how we assimilate them with the others. They were actually a group of three hens and a rooster but were put with a bunch of other chickens and the rooster and one of the hens were killed so their old owner took them back and wanted to find another home for them, we are hoping they work out with our group of chickens.

Here’s a picture of me and my little helper. I bundled her up and took her out with me to the coop. She is amazing. She REALLY wants to do everything I do. If she could, she would be at the sink “doing dishes” all day long! One day this will actually be a huge blessing, until then, I choose to see it as a blessing and I clean up a lot of water off the floor and toss many wet shirts and pants into the ever-growing dirty clothes hamper. I love Guenna’s heart, she is such a sweetie. She brings so much joy to my heart. She’s an eager little girl, eager to learn to potty train, eager to put on her shoes, coat, gloves, hat, and usually eager to take them all off as soon as put them on.

Well, I’m off to watch “Mayor of Casterbridge” with my love. We’ve had a long and fun weekend finishing our chicken yard, snow, decorating our Christmas tree (pictures soon), church and new song Sunday, and getting new chickens. We feel like we deserve to veg a little ;) Blessings to you all!

Snow!

Snow!

Originally uploaded by Chris and Jenni.

Our first snow of the year (or I should say of the winter season) happened yesterday/today! The kids get so excited to see the beautiful white stuff falling from the sky. It’s funny too because we didn’t get to play in it, not enough and definitely too wet, but they still loved it just the same. We made sure to keep the blinds pulled so they could see it snowing throughout the day yesterday. I took this picture on the way to church this morning. We were a little late because of the slower traffic (I anyone was wondering ;) that and we left a few minutes late which didn’t help! We have just a few excuses for being late for church! We were just glad to make it, seems that we miss a lot because one or all of us are sick, we were all healthy today. Thank you for all the well wishes by the way! If feels so good to be well again!

On that note, I finally took Aidan to the doctor to have him check out his sinus.’ After evaluating him and discussing symptoms, we came to the conclusion that he is allergic to mold. Aidan hasn’t been able to breathe through his nose for over a year, and it just sounds miserable, although he doesn’t really complain about it. Anyway, the naturopath put him on a steroid nasal spray for six weeks to clear him up and then a homeopathic spray pretty much until we move or we get rid of the mold. I’m hoping that this works, he seems to think that this will work and I was very impressed with this doctor. So our little guy has to do the nasal spray thing three times a day, indefinitely. It could be worse, so we are counting our blessings and Aidan is learning how do take his nasal sprays with a cheerful heart :) Oh, and when he does, I draw a little blue spray bottle on his cheerful chart!

Thanksgiving Cooks

All the cooks

If it wasn’t for all the ladies, we wouldn’t have had such a lucious Thanksgiving dinner! Okay, I guess I have to give Chris a little credit since he was in charge of the kids for about five hours strait while I cooked! :) On Thanksgiving we headed to Chris’ aunt Janice’s house, everyone brought the ingredients for the dishes aunt Janice told you to make (she passed out recipes ahead of time), then we spend the day in their lovely kitchen, cooking together. It is so much fun, we get to watch the whole process for each of the items being cooked. It’s a lot of fun, but if it weren’t for Janice’s organization, we might be a little nutty! I love it because sometimes preparing a lot of food for a large group can get stressful, but this is just so much fun, you don’t even realize you’ve been cooking all day! Then of course we all eat way too much!

Thanks aunt Janice and uncle Nik for generously hosting this event every year, it really is such a neat tradition. I’m so glad to be a part of your family, we’re kind of a crazy bunch :) It’s fun to see how the Lord has added to our group over the years.

We had a great Thanksgiving, spent a lot of time recouping from being sick. But we also got to spend some time with mom and dad Burns on Saturday, had some leftovers and yummy pork, soooo good! Now I’m just amazed that it is almost December. Can it really be the end of the year?!

Ruler of the Roost

She’s a He!!

Originally uploaded by Chris and Jenni.

I witnessed Snoopy crowing for the first time today, we had suspicions for a couple weeks but now it’s official, we have a rooster, and so I guess his name “Snoopy” is a little more fitting now :)

I had to bring him in the house to tell the kids that he is a rooster. They were excited, of course to see our chicken in the house, and to know that Snoopy is a rooster. It’s funny what we farm folks get excited about!

It’s funny because we have thought of Snoopy as a hen up until now but now we know for sure! I have no doubts about the three others, pretty positive they are all hens. And his domineering behavior makes more sense now!
For those of you who have been wondering where we’ve been lately, we’ve been busy cleaning up puke and other “stuff” and then the last week or so I’ve been wiping snotty noses, lots of them! The last coupke days I’ve been catching up and trying to get my Christmas shopping done, I think I’m done :) Which isn’t hard, I didn’t have much to buy,  we are getting cousins for Christmas this year so we aren’t really doing gifts. It will be fun!

Celebrating Grandma Esther

Last week we got together with Nana Joan’s side of the family to celebrate what would be Grandma Esther’s 93rd birthday. We’ve done this for the last few years, I know that Grandma would appreciate her family enjoying one another. She’s with us in so many ways, but we all miss her still. We love you Grandma!

Actually Chris and I were talking on the way home from the dinner about how wonderful it is that we have such great family, not one of the family gatherings that we have with his family or mine, ends up becoming an unbearable family drama, we are truly blessed. And I can say that I love being a part of both the Burns and the Long family, as well as my own :)

I posted, um, a zillion pictures tonight. Getting caught up, must go get some sleep!
